Evergy Receives HIRE Vets Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor

Veterans comprise 11% of Evergy’s workforce compared to national average of 5%.

Kansas City, Mo. - January15, 2026 – Evergy’s strong record for hiring and retaining military veterans earned the company the 2025 HIRE Vets Gold Medallion Award.

The U.S. Department of Labor recognizes employers for their dedication to hiring, supporting and retaining veterans with the Gold Medallion Award. Veterans comprise 11% of Evergy’s workforce, compared to the national workforce average of 5%. Evergy also has an 80% retention rate among veteran employees.

Not only does Evergy have an exceptional retention rate, but the company also has a Veterans Employee Resource Group as well as an Evergy Honor Guard.

Evergy made it even easier for veterans to explore careers at the utility. Recently, Evergy launched a new system where veterans or current service members enter their military job code on Evergy's website and they will be matched with specific jobs at Evergy that align that code and their military skills.

"Veterans bring unique and strong assets to any business, but those skills translate especially well at Evergy,” said Tom Sullivan, vice president, talent management & analytics. “The work is mission-driven, and veterans bring a string work ethic and sense of discipline, teamwork, and adaptability and problem-solving that are key to serving customers across Kansas and Missouri.”

The HIRE Vets Award is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veteran’s Employment and Training Service (VETS). Businesses are evaluated using rigorous criteria to ensure meaningful support for veterans. It is the only one of its kind at the national level. Evergy joins 886 companies from 48 states, plus the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico that have shown a commitment to hiring veterans and also ensuring they have a long-term career growth plan.
