Evergy restores power to 11,000 following ice, snow

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan 11, 2020) – A winter storm brought rain, ice and snow across Kansas and Missouri Friday and Saturday causing more than 11,000 Evergy customers to lose power. By 3 p.m. Saturday, power had been restored to 95 percent of affected customers and power was expected to be restored to everyone by midnight.

Throughout Kansas and Missouri, outages were caused by wind along with ice accumulation on power lines causing lines to gallop, power poles to break and downed power lines. Evergy crews began repairs Friday afternoon as the first outage reports were received and work will continue until power is restored to all customers. Areas of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri experienced more concentrated outages and additional line crews were brought in to help restore power.

In cases where the hardware attaching the electric meter to a customer’s home or business was damaged, a licensed electrician may be needed to make repairs for power to be safely restored.

Outages may be reported online at www.evergy.com. Customers in the Evergy Kansas Central area may report power outages at 1-800-LIGHTKS (1-800-544-4857). Customers in Evergy Kansas Metro, Missouri Metro and Missouri West service areas may report power outages at 1-888-LIGHTKC (1-888-544-4852).
