KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Apr 22, 2020) – Evergy wind farms recently passed 65 million megawatt hours of wind electricity production. For perspective, it’s enough electricity to power peak usage (game time) of Arrowhead Stadium for 753 straight years.

“With this being Earth Day, it’s an incredible milestone for us to reach as we seek to reduce our carbon footprint,” said John Bridson, vice president, generation services. “Wind energy benefits our Kansas and Missouri communities through keeping our air clean, keeping energy prices down and creating additional jobs in our rural communities.” 

Evergy has increased its generation from renewables by more than 12.5 times, while also reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 45 percent from 2005 levels. In January, Evergy announced plans to reduce carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 and add 660 megawatts of wind to its generation portfolio, bringing its total wind commitment to 4535 MW. 

Evergy owns or purchases electricity from more than 20 wind farms, representing a capital investment of about $5 billion.
