Evergy news conference: Update on ongoing power restoration following windstorm

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dec. 16, 2021 – Evergy will provide an update regarding power restoration following extended, extreme wind conditions in our service area Wednesday. As of 3 p.m. Thursday, power had been restored to more than 80 percent of customers who had lost power during Wednesday’s windstorm. The storm Wednesday caused about 258,000 power outages over Kansas and Missouri and by about 3 p.m. Thursday, outage numbers had been reduced to about 31,000 customers.

Crews from Ameren, Liberty Utilities and City of Springfield have joined Evergy crews and contractors to make repairs and restore power. Work continues in communities across Kansas and Missouri, as the damage from the storm was widespread. Crews will continue to work around the clock until power to all customers I restored.

Chuck Caisley, Evergy senior vice president and chief customer officer, will provide brief remarks and be available for questions.

As weather is cooler, customers are encouraged to assess personal safety of staying at home during extended power outages. Family members who are very young, elderly or have compromised health may need to seek alternative shelter. If you have family, friends or neighbors who are without power, please check on them.

Evergy crews may use road or sidewalk barricades and traffic cones to make work areas safe. Please do not bypass these safety measures, putting crews, yourself or others potentially in harm’s way.

Customers may report outages at Evergy.com. They also may sign up for outage text alerts when their account is registered online. Evergy’s automated outage reporting lines can accept thousands of calls per hour to serve customers in need. (Reporting a power outage multiple times is not necessary.) Outages may be reported by phone at:
