TOPEKA, KS – July 27, 2023 – Dove season is here and the Evergy Green Team is hosting its annual youth dove hunt to kick off the season. It’s an excellent way to learn dove hunting basics, with plenty of birds flying at close range. The hunt will take place at Jeffrey Energy Center in St. Marys, KS, on Friday, Sept. 1 (afternoons only) and Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and 3 (mornings and afternoons).
Youths 16 and younger may participate in the hunt. They must bring their own shotguns, be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, and, if age 16, have a license and Harvest Information Program (HIP) stamp. Non-toxic shells will be provided.
The spacious wheat and sunflower fields have been prepared to draw plenty of doves, so the action should be lively.
Hunters will be scheduled as requests dictate and hunting groups can be formed. Priority will be given to first time or less experienced hunters. To request an application, please email GreenTeam@evergy.com. Applications are due by noon on Friday, August 18.
The Evergy Green Team is a group of employees and retiree volunteers that complete an average of 60 environmental projects each year. They collaborate with conservation groups, agencies and schools to enhance and foster an understanding of the environment, as well as improve natural habitats and provide access to important environmental areas.
