TOPEKA, Kan., - October 2, 2025 – The Evergy Green Team will host rifle deer hunts for youths December 3 - 14. Hunts will be conducted at Jeffrey Energy Center, 25905 Jeffrey Rd, St. Marys, Kan., during the early firearm deer season. Due to the highly supervised and educational nature of the hunts, youths aged 13 – 17 with little or no deer hunting experience are invited to apply. Applications will be accepted through Friday, October 30. Requests for applications should be sent to GreenTeam@evergy.com.
The hunt is part of Evergy’s commitment to environmental education, conservation stewardship and community engagement. It provides hands-on opportunities for young people to learn about wildlife management, ethical hunting practices and habitat conservation.
All youth hunters must first attend a mandatory orientation session Saturday, November 15 at Jeffrey Energy Center. Organizers will instruct hunters on safety, deer biology and assist youths with sighting in rifles. Hunters will then be allowed to attend the youth deer hunts December 3 - 14.
Other important items of note include:
The Green Team’s annual youth deer hunts are conducted in partnership with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and are designed to provide an opportunity to educate youths about wildlife conservation principles, habitat protection, as well as safe and sustainable harvest practices. The hunts are safe and fun hunting experiences focused on engaging inexperienced hunters, in an area where the odds of success are high due to the abundance of deer.
