KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dec. 7, 2020 – Knowing that some consumers are struggling with managing bills during the COVID-19 pandemic, Evergy is working to ensure customers are aware of bill payment assistance programs in Kansas and Missouri.
To raise awareness regarding available relief funds, Evergy will host a Facebook livestream event on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. Representatives from Evergy Customer Affairs will provide valuable insight on eligibility requirements, how a customer can sign up for LIHEAP/LIEAP and what documentation is needed to apply.
Missouri is currently accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to address financial needs for customers. Low income families can submit applications until 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 31. Last year customers received an average of $300 in financial relief.
Kansas will be accepting applications for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) beginning Monday, Jan. 4 until Wednesday, March 31. Last year customers received an average of $600 in financial relief.
“Every year LIHEAP/LIEAP is available to qualifying customers who could use financial assistance to help pay their utility bills,” said Lori Shaffer, Evergy senior manager, customer affairs. “Given the year we’ve had, it’s extremely critical to raise awareness for these available funds. We want our Facebook livestream to reach as many customers as we can.”
Evergy customer advisors have partnered with community service organizations to help customers applying for LIEAP and LIHEAP funds since 2010. Both relief programs are federally funded and help eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year benefit. A customer’s electric account does not need to be past due to receive the funds.
Kansas energy customers can apply for LIEAP program funds beginning Jan. 4 on the Kansas Department for Children and Families Energy Assistance website at www.dcf.ks.gov. Applicants will need utility account numbers, proof of income and Social Security numbers for all members of their household.
Missouri energy customers can apply for LIHEAP program funds immediately by visiting https://mydss.mo.gov/energy-assistance. Applicants will need to provide a completed and signed application, a copy of their primary heating bill, copies of Social Security cards for every member of the household (who do not receive food stamps), and proof of income for every member of the household over the age of 18 from the prior month.
