Kansas City, MO – July 31, 2024 – On Wednesday night strong storms with reported wind speeds as high as 80 mph began rolling through Kansas along the I-70 corridor and into Missouri causing widespread outages. As of 11:00 p.m. the Salina, Topeka, Lawrence, and KC metro areas had significant damage. Outages reached about 108,000 customers at about midnight. and storms were still active.
Damage assessment and power restoration will begin as soon as it is safe to do so. All available crews are being mobilized. As we get teams in the field, we will get a better understanding of the extent of the damage and overall restoration times. If you see a downed power line or a tree limb or other debris touching a line, stay at least 30 feet away. In case of an emergency, call 911.
