Kansas City, Mo., September 10, 2026 – Evergy, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVRG) is the recipient of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Response Award. Evergy was awarded and honored for quick storm response efforts after severe weather moved through Salina, Abilene, Topeka, and parts of the Kansas City region in June.

EEI presents the national award each year, recognizing heroic efforts by electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events.

Winners were selected by a panel of judges through a nomination process. The awards were presented during EEI’s September Board of Directors and Chief Executives Meeting Sept. 9.

On June 8, storms entered the western part of Evergy's service area near Salina, Kan., with 115 mph winds. The storm then swept eastward across northern Kansas and into the Kansas City metro area. Over the course of three days, Evergy crews:

  • Restored power to nearly 200,000 customers.
  • Worked more than 27,000 combined hours.
  • Responded to more than 3,200 outage reports.
  • Replaced 200,000 feet of wire and cable, nearly 600 poles, and more than 340 transformers.

"This recognition reflects the extraordinary dedication of our crews and support teams, who responded to one of the most destructive wind events to impact our service area in years," said David Campbell, Evergy president and CEO. "Despite extreme heat, more tornado warnings and widespread damage, our teams remained focused on safely restoring service to every customer as quickly as possible We also want to share our appreciation to those customers and communities who were impacted by the storm."

“When severe weather strikes, our member companies mobilize around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible for the customers they serve,” said Drew Maloney, President and CEO of EEI. “EEI is proud to recognize Evergy with the Emergency Recovery Award for its outstanding response following the storm that hit Northeast Kansas. This honor reflects the skill and determination of Evergy’s workforce, who prepare year-round—practicing, planning, and investing in resilience—so they’re ready to face the toughest conditions and get the lights back on for communities who depend on them.”
